Maria Shlumukova - Shiatsu practitioner at Meadowlark Yoga
A bit about me
I started Shiatsu training to help my family and friends feel better and was amazed to discover how touch can bring profound changes in peoples’ lives through healing and releasing unnecessary stresses and strains that we often carry.

Since qualifying in 2006 I have focused my learning on improving movement in joints, alignment of the spine and hips, as well as using the touch in the way that encourages relaxation, a sense of ease and space within body and mind during and following a treatment.

I combine a variety of techniques such as traditional acupressure points and work along the meridians (energy channels within Traditional Chinese Medicine) I also work deeply into tight muscles and use movement, breath and stretches to release stuck fascia, abdominal massage (ampuku) to give the internal organs a much needed boost of vitality.

I love to use my Shiatsu to benefit pregnant women and those with young babies.  I aim for Shiatsu to be very relaxing, comfortable and nourishing for both the mother and the baby, easing the aches and encouraging positive connection with the growing child.

Please phone or contact me if you have a specific question about the treatment.

What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu translates as ‘finger pressure’ and is based on traditional Japanese massage.  Combining acupressure, massage, flowing movement and joint rotations helps to disperse tension, reduce pain, promote relaxation and healthy functioning of the body systems (circulation, breathing, digestion etc.). Shiatsu  therapists are guided by their experience & knowledge of physiology and traditional Chinese medicine and apply pressure using fingers, thumbs, palms and elbows and combine it with other techniques.
